Already internationally recognized for her reporting on a rampant crime situation in Dublin, she became world famous when on June 26 1996, she was murdered on the orders of one of Dublin’s biggest crime lords. Guerin had been the recipient of numerous death threats and had previously been assaulted in the course of her work. Guerin was shot six times traffic lights on the outskirts of Dublin by a gunman on a motorcycle ridden by Brian Meehan, the only person to be convicted in the affair. Meehan is serving a life sentence for the murder of Veronica Guerin.
