Today in Irish History

1902: Legendary TV host Ed Sullivan was born in New York. His grandfather was an Irish emigrant. Sullivan was irascible, cranky and often vindictive, but he was a consummate TV performer.

1963: JFK dedicates the Whiskeytown Dam in California. Kennedy’s speech in opening and tone is very similar to many of the humdrum speeches he had to make at events like this, although it must be said his effort to say something interesting about Whiskeytown is a bit forced.
