Today in Irish History
1939: Emergency Power Act is passed by Dail Eireann. The act gave the government the ability to maintain Irish neutrality during The Emergency i.e. World War II.
1942: The Queen Mary smashes into the British cruiser Curaçao off the coast of Donegal. The Curacao sund with the loss of 338 men. As were her orders, the Queen Mary which was carrying an estimated 15,000 US troops did not stop!
2009: Irish voters endorsed the Treaty of Lisbon by 67% to 33% only 16 months after initial rejection.
