1885: Monaghan born Joseph Finegan who served as a General in the Confederate Army and was victorious at the Battle of Olustee dies.

1892: Clonakilty, Co. Cork born still life painter William Hartnett dies at age of 44.

 1901: Leon Czolgosz, assassin of Scots-Irish president William McKinley is executed.  McKinley died eight days after being shot by Czolgosz on September 6, 1901.
